A small gallery sits in the middle of Gwangju's YangRimDong, sometimes known as "The Penguin Village." The gallery holds artwork by Ellie Ji Yang and other Brooklyn-based artists.

Though ELli Ji Yang is currently based in Brooklyn, she is actually from Gwangju and describes how the city influences her works and style.

In an article by It'sNiceThat (2018), she describes Gwangju as a place that
"balances city and nature."

"Connected to nature, my memories of these places are the foundation of my imagination."

Walk into this small house-like structure and you're immediately greeted by vibrant prints and posters. Walk up to the counter and you can order bottled coffee or tea. I went with hibiscus and it was cold and delightful~

You can also find prints and postcard booklets which you can purchase. I couldn't help but purchase one of the small booklets to send friends postcards / hang some around my apartment.

The cafe/gallery has three floors to lounge in and peruse the artwork.

If you ever find yourself in Yangrim-dong or want to support your local artist,
definitely stop by Yangjibaren.
